D-backs' Delgado gets $2.25 million deal, avoids arbitration
The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided arbitration

with Randall Delgado by agreeing to a $2.25 million, one-year contract with the right-handed reliever.

Often as an effective long-reliever, Delgado went 1-2 with a 3.59 ERA in 26 appearances in 2017 before right elbow inflammation in mid-July ended his season.

The deal announced Monday night indicates the Diamondbacks are optimistic about Delgado's recovery. Delgado was acquired in the Justin Upton trade in 2013 and is 23-19 in 236 games with the Diamondbacks.

Arizona still has 12 arbitration-eligible players.

The NL champion Dodgers will send $3 million to the Chicago White Sox and receive $1 million from Kansas City as part of last week's three-team trade that sent left-handed reliever Scott Alexander from the Royals to Los Angeles.

Los Angeles agreed to give the White Sox equal installments of $1.5 million on June 1 and Sept. 1. Kansas City will pay the Dodgers $500,000 on each of those two dates.

Chicago got relievers Luis Avilan and Joakim Soria iin Dak Prescott Jerseys
Thursday's trade, and the Dodgers obtained minor league infielder Jake Peter. The Royals added two minor leaguers, 24-year-old right-hander Trevor Oaks and 23-year-old infielder Erick Mejia.

Soria has a $9 million salary this year, and his contract includes a $10 million mutual option with a $1 million buyout. Avilan is eligible for arbitration and is expected to have a salary of about $2.5 million.
As the 2018 fantasy baseball season approaches, we take a look at the biggest news and story lines from each club. We'll feature one team each weekday ... and we'll finish up on Feb. 16, the first day all teams will have their pitchers and catchers on the field for workouts.

Series index: Schedule for all 2018 team previews

In the midst of a rebuild after last making the playoffs in 2013, the Braves have some intriguing young talent around cornerstone first baseman Freddie Freeman, but not enough to be a legitimate contender just yet.

The arrival of USA TODAY Sports' Minor League Player of the Year, outfielder Ronald Acuna, is part of a deep farm system that will make the Braves a team worth watching -- if not this season, then sometime in the not-too-distant future.

SP Scott Kazmir
SP Brandon McCarthy
SS Charlie Culberson

The Braves have mostly done addition by subtraction so far this offseason, unloading Matt Kemp's contract to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Kazmir, McCarthy and Culberson (plus Tom Brady Jerseys

the since-released Adrian Gonzalez).

Kazmir, 33, and McCarthy, 34, are both coming off injury-plagued seasons and should fill spots at the back end of the starting rotation if they can stay healthy. If not, several high-upside young arms who've already had a taste of the majors are anxiously waiting for their shot.

Players to watch

1B Freddie Freeman
OF Ender Inciarte

Freeman was having an MVP-caliber season until he was hit by a pitch in mid-May that broke his wrist. When he came back, he played through lingering pain, but still managed to finish with a
Image .307 average, 28 homers and a .989 OPS. He even voluntarily changed positions to ease a roster crunch, but -- unfortunately for fantasy owners -- appeared in only 16 games at third base, four short of what he'd need to qualify there in 2018 drafts.
